"...always work on your art with a reckless abandon, other wise you’re going to try and get good, or worst, cute and predictable. " Russ Potak from interview by Kim Napolitano http://wintersolsticedreams.blogspot.com/2011/05/russ-potak.html?spref=tw
Since coming back to painting I have learned that I no longer enjoy the finely detailed painting I used to do. As much as I wonderfully appreciate realism in fine art, I have noticed that my heart beats quicker when I see expressive art, art that moves & seems to be alive upon the canvas. Reading the interview on Russ Potak, changed the way I paint.
When I started this painting today I thought of Russ's words... "reckless abandon" & went for it! When ever I would start to freeze, or want to fuss.. paint with abandon would come to mind & off I'd go. This painting resonates more with me than any I have ever done to date.
About the painting... under-painting in dark greens & shades of red. Most of the paint I used is real artist paint at last!! Liquitex heavy body in light portrait pink & titanium white, - Golden heavy body in Sap Green Hue, & Naples Yellow Hue,- Winsor Newton in Pale Terracotta. And Crimson, Scarlet, Vermilion, & orange in other brands.
The background was done entirely in the knife; brushes were flat bristle & a wonderful angle brush by Daniel Smith.

Frankie, Thank you. I am still trying to loosen up.... today i tried to paint a landscape in the same manner, but without success. I think this will be something i will have to practice... seems odd to have to practice to become relaxed & loose!! lol :D
