first knife painting ...

phase one.... Do you, can you, should you make a base layer of color before you begin?? i am brand new to knife painting and to working in acrylics, so all this is experimental to me. Today i began work on a new landscape done entirely with my knife. I used 4 colors for the base Vermilion, Scarlet, Lemon Yellow & Burnt Umber.

It isn't finished drying yet, but what is dry is lighter than what you see here. My thought is that i will apply blues & white for the sky allowing bits of red & yellow to peek through.  Not sure what the bottom will be, i'll wait & see what the painting feels like as i go.
